Dustin Tokarski makes 43 saves for 18th career AHL shutout

SYRACUSE, NEW YORK – Dustin Tokarski came back to haunt his former team once again on Saturday night in Syracuse, New York, as the Hamilton Bulldogs’ (9-7-0-3) goaltender made 43 saves in a 3-0 shutout victory over the Syracuse Crunch (9-6-1-1). The win was Hamilton’s season-best fourth straight.
Tokarski was the story of the opening period as he made 15 stops, many of them acrobatic or from point-blank range, as the Crunch mostly controlled the play offensively.

Hamilton forward Christian Thomas scored his first goal as a Bulldog to open the scoring on the power play at 1:29 of the second period. Assists on the play went to forward Martin St. Pierre and defenceman Nathan Beaulieu.

Bulldogs defenceman Greg Pateryn notched his fourth goal of the year to make it 2-0 Hamilton at 7:18 of the second period. The power play goal was assisted by defenceman Drew Schiestel and forward Louis Leblanc.

Hamilton defenceman Nathan Beaulieu put his club ahead 3-0 on the power play at 6:47 of the third period, assisted by St. Pierre and Thomas.

Syracuse had several great chances to break Tokarski’s shutout bid in the final minutes of the game, but the Bulldogs netminder held the fort with 16 third-period stops en route to the victory. In three games since being traded from the Crunch to the Bulldogs last season, Tokarski is 3-0-0 with two shutouts, one goal against and a .991 save percentage.

In all, Tokarski stopped all 43 shots he faced in the Bulldogs net in the win. Cedrick Desjardins made 30 saves on 33 shots for the Crunch in the loss.

The Bulldogs went 3-for-7 on the power play, while the Crunch went 0-for-6.
