Captain Martin St. Pierre leads the way with two power play goals

HAMILTON, ONTARIO – Hamilton Bulldogs forward Martin St. Pierre scored late in the third period and again in overtime to vault the ‘Dogs (5-2-0-2) to a 2-1 victory over the Toronto Marlies (5-3-1-0) on Friday night at Copps Coliseum. With the win, the Bulldogs captured sole possession of first place in the American Hockey League’s North Division.

Marlies forward Josh Leivo opened the scoring with a backhand shot that beat Bulldogs goaltender Dustin Tokarski at 5:01 of the first period, with assists credited to forwards Spencer Abbott and Greg McKegg.

After a scoreless second period, Martin St. Pierre scored his first goal as a Bulldog on the power play to tie things up with just 8:04 remaining in the third period, with assists on the play going to forward Patrick Holland and defenceman Magnus Nygren.

In overtime, with Toronto defenceman Petter Granberg in the box again after being the culprit on St. Pierre’s tying goal, St. Pierre scored his second of the game to lift Hamilton to its third overtime victory of the season. Nygren and defenceman Nathan Beaulieu earned assists on the winner.

Tokarski made 24 saves on 25 shots in the win. Drew MacIntyre made 35 saves on 37 shots for the Marlies in the loss.
The Bulldogs went 2-for-4 on the power play, while the Marlies went 0-for-1.
