Flyers Signed James Van Riemsdyk To a 6 Year Extension

The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have signed LW James van Riemsdyk to a multi-year contract extension, according to general manager Paul Holmgren. Our sources have confirmed that he signed a six year deal worth $25.5 million, which is a $4.25 million cap hit each season.

Van Riemsdyk, 22 (5-4-1989), scored 21 goals and added 19 assists for 40 points in 75 regular season games for the Flyers last season.  He went on to score seven goals in 11 playoff games during the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs, which tied for the team lead.  In 153 career games for the Flyers, van Riemsdyk has posted 36 goals and added 39 assists for 75 points, along with 65 PIM and a plus-14 rating.

A 6-3, 200-lb native of Middletown, NJ, van Riemsdyk was selected by the Flyers in the first round (second overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
