I really wasn’t planning on doing any writing regarding the upcoming NHL entry draft but I couldn’t resist the urge to share with everyone my personal wish list is for the Montreal Canadiens. I will just come up with a few names per pick that I think have a chance of being available where the Habs are picking. Hopefully, many of you will share your own personal wish list too.

First Round Picks:

Andre Burakowski, LW, Malmo

  • Needs to fill out but he has very solid offensive instincts and intelligence.

Kerby Rychel, LW, Windsor

  • Big and nasty forward who can put the puck in the net but will need to work on skating a good deal.

Frederick Gauthier, C, Rimouski

  • 6’4” Center who skaters very well, Gauthier has great hockey I.Q. defensively but he is expected to be a moderate point producer in the NHL.

Early Second Round Picks (both 34 and 36):

Mike McCarron, RW, USNTDP

  • McCarron is a huge winger who has shown really good improvement in the 2nd half of the season. Nasty shot on net.

Connor Hurley, C, Edina H.S.

  • If he was born a few hours later, he would not have even been draft eligible. Needs to get a lot stronger but love his passing game and hockey I.Q.

Tommy Vannelli, D, Minnetonka H.S.

  • Very good overall skills, Vannelli is mature in his decision-making and still has some room to improve.

End of Second Round Pick:

William Carrier, LW, Cape Breton

  • Underrated forward who has had to take on pretty much all of Cape Breton`s offence on his own. Can create chances with his vision and passing ability.

Marc Oliver Roy, LW, Blainville-Boisbriand

  • He’s still very slight still but willing to battle, a good skater and great work ethic.

Phillipe Desrosiers, G, Rimouski

  • Desrosiers has improved a good deal as the season progressed, he is confident and focused especially when the pressure is on.

Guys To Consider For The Rest of the Draft:

Gage Ausmus, D, USNTDP

  • Growing into his frame he could play the body well and has the mobility to keep pace against quicker opponents.

Nick Baptiste, RW, Subdury

  • Very quick skater who is usually attacking the puck carrier with authority, Baptiste could be a solid 3rd line player who will excel at the cycling game.

Vincent Dunn, LW, Gatineau

  • Nasty, abrasive forward who plays with a lot of emotion, sometimes too much. When focused, he is clever player who excels in the defensive aspect of the game while being able to chip in some secondary offence.

Yan-Pavel Laplante, RW, PEI

  • Missed a lot of time due to injury, Laplante is a very hard worker who understands the game well and makes smart decisions.

Carter Verhaeghe, C, Niagara

  • Choppy skater, Verheaghe compensates by always moving his feet and forechecking effectively.
